SEO Tips
Want to see exactly what search engines see when they crawl your site? Go to Google and put in your URL into the search field and click. When it comes up, click the "cached" link. Go to the top of the resulting page and click on "click here for the cached text only" and you will see all the links that Google sees and is able to index. Cool trick, huh?
SEO (Search Engine Optimizer) Tips:
SEO Tip 1. Set up a sitemap (named sitemap.htm or sitemap.html) containing the links to all of your content pages. They speed up the indexing of your pages, and Google advises this.
SEO Tip 2. Do include an About Us or Biography page. If this is a company page, describe what it is that your company does and how it might benefit the visitor. Studies as far back as 1994 (an eon in Internet Time) suggested that viewers want to know who is behind that page/site on their screen. This is especially true if you are selling products or services and want them to spend their money with you.
SEO Tip 3. Write for the Web (see Content is King) and make sure to include (and repeat) your keywords and key phrases. Shoot for a 3% to 7% conversion, meaning that you should repeat your main keywords three to seven times in your text.
SEO Tip 4. Name your pages (the title tag) using your keywords. These names are what comes up in search engines and what the viewer sees in their browser bar.
SEO Tip 5. Use header tags (h1, h2--h6) to separate content instead of just larger text as search engines give greater weight to header tags. Use your keywords in those tags. Repeat those keywords in the text.
SEO Tip 6. Cultivate good incoming links. Part of Google's formula for Page Rank os the quantity and quality of incoming links. Never use a link farm, but instead, seek out businesses and sites that would have a reason to link to you. Contact them and exchange links. Join organizations involving the business or services that you offer and get listed on their site. Join your local Chamber of Commerce. Get listed at the search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN. Submit your site to DMOZ and other Web directories suited to your site.
SEO Tip 7. Provide fresh and useful content via a blog or added pages. The spiders which the search engines send out will know when there is something new and will come back more frequently if your updates are consistent.
